THE ROAD TO SUCCESS WITH SPSS
With the continuing mission of driving the
widespread use of analytics in decision-making, ACRE conducted a
seminar entitled THE ROAD TO SUCCESS WITH SPSS which was
successfully held in Ortigas Building last October 2, 2008. 48
participants from 16 schools and 2 research companies attended
the said event. The topics discussed were SPSS Solution
Overview, Sneak Preview of SPSS 17, Questionnaire Design Using
SPSS Data Entry, SPSS Text Analysis for Surveys and Data Mining
Applications in Higher Education.

OPTIMIZING PRODUCTION WITH THE BEST ANALYTICAL TOOL
SPSS showcased new developments and
applications during the seminar for the consumer manufacturing
industries, Optimizing
Production with the Best Analytical Tool, last July 30, held
at the Ortigas Building, Ortigas Avenue, Pasig
City.
Eleven delegates from seven
manufacturing companies partook in the said event. The
participating companies were Arco Metal Products Co. Inc.,
FoodSphere, Inc. (CDO), ISO 9001 Asiaco, Jollibee Foods
Corporation, Magnolia Inc. – Ice Cream, Republic Biscuit
Corporation (Rebisco), and Yakult Philippines Inc.
SPSS shared techniques in extracting
information from data, essential for product development.
Quantitative and qualitative analyses discussed were
Sensory Evaluation,
Forecasting Sales and Volumes, Predictive Analytics: Targeting
Best Customers and Cross-selling, Trade-off: Price vs. Quality,
and Mining Gold from
Texts. SPSS Base, Trends, Clementine and Classification
Trees, Conjoint, and SPSS Text Analysis for Surveys were
utilized respectively to address the mentioned objectives.

HOLY NAME UNIVERSITY BOHOL
Last July 24, ACRE, Inc. presented SPSS products to the Research
Team of Holy Name University, headed by Rev. Fr. Romy Bancale.
HNU is currently using SPSS version 13, and is most likely to
upgrade to the latest version. They are also interested in SPSS
Text Analysis for their research. HNU is the research arm of the
Office of the Mayor of Tagbilaran. |

SPSS EXPLORES BOHOL
SPSS visited Bohol last July 23-27, 2008. Bohol is renowned for
its marvelous islands, amazing beaches and resorts, and ancient
churches. The province of Bohol is in Region VII (Central
Visayas), 803 km South of Manila and 79 km Southeast of Cebu.
Tourist attractions include the breath taking Chocolate Hills,
River Cruise, man-made forest, tarsiers, and native delicacies

SPSS : EFFECTIVE STATISTICS IN GOVERNMENT
EFFECTIVE STATISTICS IN GOVERNMENT, a seminar for government
agencies, was successfully held last June 26, 2008 at RCBC
Plaza, Makati City. There were 28 participants who took part in
this event. Participating agencies include Agricultural Training
Institute, Bureau of Animal Industry, Cotton Development
Authority, Department of Agrarian Reform, Department of
Agriculture, Food and Nutrition Research Institute, National
Council on Disability Affairs, National Dairy Authority,
National Economic and Development Authority, Philippine National
Police, Science Education Institute, and Technology Application
and Promotion Institute. Our guest speaker, Ms. Wilma L. Molano
from FNRI discussed a research paper entitled “Prevalence of
Malnutrition Using the W.H.O. Child Growth Standards and
International Reference Standards: Issues and Implications”.
Other presentations include: SPSS 16 Solution Overview, SPSS
Text Analysis for qualitative analysis, and Data Mining in the
Predictive Enterprise. |

SPSS Roadshow (Baguio, Cagayan de Oro, Davao)
Last May 29, 2008, a seminar for the Academe was organized. The audience
included 33 participants from 6 different schools.
Ryan Aga, an Account Manager of SPSS, discussed SPSS and
its modules, focusing on SPSS Item Analysis, SPSS Text Analysis,
and Predictive Analysis through Clementine. |

SPSS Roadshow (Cebu & Iloilo)
This summer, ACRE, Inc. conducted several seminars for the academe. Two separate roadshows had been successfully implemented. April 17 in Cebu and May 8 in Iloilo. Part of our mission is to drive the widespread use of statistics for instruction and teaching, making students employable and ready for the workplace. Included in the programme are the New Features of SPSS 16, a Case Study on Statistical Analysis, Clementine in Higher Education and Structural Equation Modeling using Amos. There will be more seminars to come for schools this summer. ACRE, Inc. will fly to Cagayan de Oro on May 15, Davao on May 21 and Baguio on May 23. Please contact

SPSS USERS GROUP GENERAL
ASSEMBLY
The SPSS Users Group General Assembly was successfully conducted
last March 28, 2008 at RCBC Plaza, Makati City. A total of 44
participants from 32 companies attended the said event. There
were two technical presentations from SPSS users. Dr. Ma.
Corazon Lopez from the Assumption College presented a paper on
The Nature, Pattern and Magnitude of Social Interactions as
Correlates of Community Participation. On the other hand, Ms.
Joyce Luis from The International Rice Research Institute
discussed The Incidence of Labor Out-Migration. The new features
of SPSS 16.0 and Amos 16.0 were discussed. Also, SPSS Text
Analysis for Surveys, a qualitative tool of SPSS, was presented.

Managing Risks in HealthCare
Last January 30, 2008, a seminar for Hospitals, Pharmaceuticals
and Health Maintenance Organizations was organized. The audience
included 26 participants from 13 different companies.
The seminar showcased the use of SPSS and Statistics in
different research and marketing applications in the healthcare
industry. Some of the included topics are Building Better
Relationship with Doctors, Prediction of Low Birth Weight
Babies, and Fraud Detection in Health Insurance Claims.
