STRAND-Asia Partakes in the PSM Symposium
Mr. Ryan Aga of the Strategic Research and Development Center (STRAND-Asia), Inc. imparted the various applications of IBM-SPSS in the field of Microbiology during the symposium and workshop with a theme, “Food Safety and Hygiene Quality Standards: Adapting to the Challenging Microbial World,” organized by Philippine Society for Microbiology (PSM) last September 17 at the University of the East – Manila.
Entitled “Statistical Analysis in Microbiology,” Mr. Aga’s presentation started with a review of the basic concepts of IBM-SPSS. PSM members experienced an actual execution of statistical analyses in IBM-SPSS using microbiological data. Mr. Aga then discussed the outputs like Two-Step and K-Means Cluster Analysis, which were used to classify bacteria based on their different characteristics and size of inhibition when exposed to several types of antibiotic. Participants also performed significance test of mean difference of size of inhibition. Mr. Aga ended the talk by emphasizing the other success stories in Microbiology done by other countries and concepts of survival analysis. Mr. Aga had three consecutive sessions, where different participants attended each.
